ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

Since our inception in 2004, we have paid over more than R14 million directly to rural entrepreneurs, thereby helping to alleviate poverty in rural areas.

Africa Ignite contributes to broad-based BEE and poverty alleviation by providing training, support, design input, capacity-building, distribution and marketing services to rural entrepreneurs across our craft, distribution, publishing and research projects.

Craft enterprise support

Up to 500 rural crafters from 12 rural centres across KwaZulu-Natal are involved in producing the IGNITE craft range of corporate gifting and lifestyle products. Most of these crafters are women who use the income to feed, clothe and educate their families. Africa!Ignite provides design, product development and business development support to craft groups and actively markets the IGNITE range for conferencing and corporate and promotional gifting.

Distribution enterprise support

140 RAIN distribution sub-contractors regularly deliver materials to schools in their districts. Africa!Ignite actively markets the RAIN distribution and warehousing service to a range of government and corporate customers and continues to build the capacity of the local contractors through workshops.

Citizen Journalists

iThubalethu, a monthly isiZulu newspaper distributed free to rural communities across KwaZulu-Natal will provide opportunities for up to 72 local correspondents and photographers through training and regular contributions of news stories.

Rural Researchers

Africa!Ignite's research and project facilitation service provides up to 120 local research field-workers and outreach workers with employment opportunities in even the most far-flung corners of KwaZulu-Natal.

IGNITE

The IGNITE conferencing and lifestyle product range was created in conjunction with crafters and design studios from around KZN. Contact Abigail Samuel for more information and orders or phone 031 303 5482.
