With support from the National Development Agency (NDA), Africa!Ignite is establishing a network of tourist marketplaces across the province under the WOWZULU brand, to integrate craft and tourism development and provide opportunities for local craft entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.
WOWZULU Lake Eland is situated at the entrance to Lake Eland Game Reserve, which is popular with families and outdoor enthusiasts for its wide range of activities. Africa!Ignite is extremely grateful to Lake Eland Game Reserve for generously building the shop and helping Africa!Ignite to provide support to the two local youths, Thando Ntombela and Buyani Ndwalane who run the shop.
Products on sale in the shop are sourced from local craft enterprises and Africa!Ignite also provides a core range of WOWZULU products which represents the best craft skills from across the province.
Visitors to WOWZULU Lake Eland can play malabalaba, listen to Zulu stories and learn to do basic beading with guidance from a local crafter. Further activities planned include more children's games and a dress-up booth.
A third WOWZULU Marketplace will open at Isandlwana in the Battlefields area of northern KwaZulu-Natal before the end of 2011, with more WOWZULU's in the pipeline in 2012. Watch this space!
