Return to Sender products are exclusively sold by Dutch retail giant HEMA and are sourced from Fair Trade producers in developing countries across the world. Profits from the sales of products are invested by Return to Sender in market development and education projects for producer organisations.
Africa!Ignite production co-ordinator, Bongiwe Mlangeni and operations manager, Margaret Gribble, were guests of the Centre for the Promotion of Imports (CBI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, along with representatives of 16 organisations from Asia, South America and East Africa for the week-long workshop in Rotterdam.
Return to Sender strongly supports the Dutch government's focus on trade as the engine for economic development but also believe in the power of beautiful handmade products and the stories of the producers who make them.
Africa!Ignite, with Dutch partner the Rainbow Collection, has supplied close to 15,000 beaded accessories to HEMA via the Return to Sender collections in 2010 and 2011, creating income for hundreds of crafters across KwaZulu-Natal.
The Return to Sender Producer Week provided valuable opportunities to conduct market research, both in the Netherlands and Germany, through a visit to the Tendence Trade Show in Frankfurt. The highly experienced trainers of the CBI brought new insights in product pricing, range and product development, which Africa!Ignite is already benefiting from.
