The Africa!Ignite core team and our associates are well qualified and experienced professionals. We are therefore able to also offer various consulting services as the need arises. What makes the organisation’s inputs so valuable is the fact we have established our own SMMEs as local tourism hubs in and SMME incubators, and in the process have built a knowledge base and have learned valuable lessons ‘on the ground’, which are not always available elsewhere. While we have an inclusive approach, we work with mainly local youth and women to co-develop businesses, tourism itineraries, routes, experiences and accommodation offerings based on the local assets, from skills and traditional knowledge, to cultural, physical, environmental and financial assets. We help create linkages with other sectors such as arts and crafts, agriculture, agro-processing, biodiversity industries, construction and manufacturing. The organisation has therefore gained more than 15 years of practical learning, and has a deep understanding of what works and what does not work in rural communities, how to navigate the political and local governance landscapes and reach the community members most in need of opportunities and support. We have an appreciation of the challenges faced by communities – and in particular youth – and how to overcome these. We can therefore add tremendous value to projects through sharing of our own knowledge and experience in addition to presenting the findings from desktop analysis and primary data collection.
